  • The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree with 1st- or upper-2nd-class honors, or an (equivalent) degree. The Council may grant a provisional offer of a scholarship if the results of the applicant’s undergraduate exams are unknown at the time of application, provided that the scholar earns a 1st-class or upper 2nd-class honors on their bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent. A scholar needs to hold a master’s degree if they don’t already have a 1st-class or upper 2nd-class honors bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. The Council’s decision on a candidate’s eligibility based on these requirements is final.
  • The candidate must not have submitted 2 successful submissions to the programme in the past, including those that included strategic partner themes.
  • The student must be a first-time student in the degree for which they are to receive Council support and must have been officially accepted by the related department/school.
  • Students applying for a research master’s award, must not currently earn or have earned before, a Council Postgraduate Scholarship.
  • Students applying for a Ph.D. degree award, must not currently earn or have earned before, any Council Postgraduate bursary other than those which would enable them to get a research master’s degree.
  • Students will be placed into one of two categories, depending on nationality and place of residence.
  • Candidates of category I must fulfill both of the following requirements: they must be citizens of an EEA member state or Switzerland OR they must have continuously resided in a member state of EEA or Switzerland for 3 of the 5 years before October first.
