Benefits of the DU Scholarships

Deakin Scholarships will provide the following benefits:

  • A salary of $28,900 per year for 2022 tax-exempt
  • A relocation allowance ranging from $500 to $1,500 (for single to family) granted to students moving from interstate or overseas in order to study at Deakin University
  • For foreign students only: Single Overseas Student Health Cover policy for the duration of the student visa

Eligibility Criteria for Deakin University Scholarships

To be eligible for DU Scholarships, you need to fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Required Language: English.
  • Eligible Countries: All world countries.
  • To qualify for an RTP Fees Offset, RTP Stipend, RTP Allowance or DUPRS a candidate need to be a domestic or overseas student enrolled in an HDR course of study at Deakin
  • To qualify for an RTP Fees Offset the applicants must not be receiving an equivalent grant or scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offset HDR fees.
  • To qualify for an RTP or DUPRS Stipend students must not be receiving income from any other sources to assist that student’s general living costs while undertaking their course of study if that income is larger than 75 % of that student’s RTP or DUPRS Stipend rate. Income that is unrelated to the student’s course of study or that is relevant to the student’s course of study but is not used to fund general living expenses is not to be considered.
  • In order to be eligible for an RTP or DUPRS Stipend, applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of 4 years of postsecondary study and earned a first-class honors degree or an equal level of academic excellence.
  • For PhD degree:
    -Completion of a research project in a relevant discipline including a thesis which is equal to at least 25 percent of a year’s full-time study at Level eight or nine of the Australian Qualifications Framework with the achievement of a grade for the project equal to a Deakin University grade of 70 percent or equivalent.
    -Masters Degree (Research) in a relevant discipline.
  • For Master Degree: -Completion of a research project including a thesis which is equal to at least 25 percent of a year’s full-time study at Level eight or nine of the Australian Qualifications Framework with the achievement of a grade for the project equal to a Deakin grade of 65 percent or equivalent.

To apply for the DU scholarships, please follow the steps below:

(1) Check the entrance pathways to see whether you are eligible from here. Then, Find a supervisor: Please consult with a supervisor about your research subject and proposal before beginning your application. Here you may find information about contacting a supervisor.

(2) Prepare the following necessary documents/information:

  • CV or resume. Official Academic Transcripts.
  • Prior research degree.
  • Information on publications. Bibliographic details.
  • Provide evidence of identification & citizenship.
  • Give proof of English competence; see the how to apply page in order to determine the minimal English requirements.
  • 2 referee reports from either current or former instructors or academic or employment supervisors. you can find the template here.
  • Prepare your proposal as follows: Give a brief summary of your proposed research subject. Check the proposal guidelines for further information. 

(3) Apply online through this link, first determine whether your targeted faculty requires an expression of interest or not, and then continue the procedures.

(4) Ensure to mail in certified copies; the copies have to be certified by one of the following approved personnel before being sent:

  • A justice of the peace.
  • An employee of the Commonwealth or the Australian Trade Commission who works outside of Australia.
  • Australian Consular Officer or Australian Diplomatic Officer (within the meaning of the Consular Fees Act 1955).
  • Notary public.
  • A recruitment agent for overseas students.
