Foreign students can apply for fully financed grants under the MEXT University Recommendation Scholarships 2023–2024 program. These scholarships are offered for master’s and doctoral degrees. The MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship will cover the whole cost of tuition, as well as 144,000 JPY per month for living costs and round-trip plane travel in economy.

Overseas students at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), Japan, may apply for MEXT Scholarship University Recommendation. Excellent overseas students who have received the APU’s recommendation are given this scholarship.

This scholarship is offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) with the goal of boosting global competitiveness and encouraging active engagement between overseas students at Japanese institutions. Outstanding qualifying individuals will immediately be recommended to the scholarship organization by APU.

 MEXT scholarship Criteria 2024:

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible this scholarship:

  • Intend to enroll at a Japanese university abroad.
  • Be a citizen of a nation with diplomatic ties to Japan and not being Japanese.
  • Have been born on April 2, 1988, or later.
  • Have a GPA at their most recent institution of higher learning of at least 2.30 on a scale of 3.00.

This scholarship is not open to anyone who is currently on active duty or who is a civilian employee of the military.

During the APU-specified arrival period, winners are required to be able to land in Japan.

If you have won a MEXT scholarship in the past, you cannot apply for this scholarship unless you have more than three years of academic research experience after receiving your prior MEXT scholarship award’s last payment.

You cannot apply for this award and another MEXT scholarship at the same time.

While enrolled at APU, recipients of this scholarship are not permitted to accept funding from any other organizations.

The visa status of the awardees in Japan must be that of students.

  • Full tuition (covered by the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarship)

  • Air travel between the home nation and APU in economy class at the beginning and the end of the program.

For the duration of their 1st year at APU, incoming foreign students must reside on campus at AP House, APU’s dorm (out of funding).
