Eligibility Criteria for MEXT Scholarship 2024

To be eligible for the MEXT Scholarship, the students need to meet all of the following criteria:

  • Required Language: English
  • Eligible Countries: Students from all over the world are eligible to apply for the Monbukagakusho Scholarship

  • Candidates must be citizens of a country that has diplomatic ties with Japan.
  • A candidate who possesses Japanese nationality at the time of application is ineligible.
  • Bachelors Students: You need to be at least 17 years old and under 25 years old, and you must have finished twelve years of school education or courses at a school similar to a high school (including prospective graduates).
  • For graduate (Masters) / Postgraduate (PhD) Students: You need to be under the age of 35 years and a college graduate (including prospective graduates). Alternatively, you must have completed Sixteen / eighteen years of study.
  • For Teacher training students: You need to be under the age of 35 years and a college graduate or teacher training college. You need to have at least 5 years of active experience as a teacher in either a primary, secondary, or teacher training college in your own country.
  • For Japanese Study Students: Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30, and need to be enrolled as students in undergraduate programs in faculties or schools that major in the Japanese language or Japanese culture at institutions outside of Japan when they come to Japan and must be enrolled in their home institution when they go back to their countries.

How to Apply for MEXT Scholarship 2024?

To apply for the Monbukagakusho Scholarship must follow the following application steps:

  1. Find your country’s Japanese Embassy / Consulate.
  2. Then, go to your country’s Japanese Embassy website. The Monbukagakusho Scholarship can be found under the Education / Scholarship tab.
  3. Download the application form for the MEXT scholarship 2024 and complete it.
  4. Submit the necessary documents (list given below) to your country’s Japanese Embassy.
