Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and the Idaho Legislature created the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship in order to lower obstacles to higher education and better prepare college and university graduates for the job after realizing the need for a workforce with a strong educational foundation. Idaho Opportunity Scholarship is a need-based award that provides qualifying candidates with up to $3,500 every academic year and it is renewable for up to 4 years.

Funds for the scholarship are available for each academic year; winners will need to renew each year and are only able to get it for a total of four years.

Eligibility Requirements for Idaho Opportunity Scholarship

To be eligible for Idaho scholarships for adults, you need to fulfill all of the following requirements:

  • You must have an unweighted cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher
  • You must be a resident of Idaho
  • You must not be enrolled right now and must not have taken more than two classes in the past 24 months.
  • You must have obtained 24 postsecondary credits or more before a cease in enrollment.
  • Graduated from Idaho home school or Idaho high school or any equivalent (GED/HSE from Idaho).
  • You need to be working towards your undergraduate degree/certificate, up to a 1st bachelor’s degree.
  • FAFSA: Before the application deadline, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
